Here’s to Always “Defending Childhood”

Most of us at KAFSC know that the Korean culture is immersed in respect – especially towards our elders. Some of us have even grown up in households that practiced this everyday, always putting the elders before the young. Not to say that this way of life is wrong and unethical, but KAFSC cannot be more happier to be a part of a new culture: the Office of Victims for Crimes’ Defending the Childhood Campaign.

With the approve of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), the Office of Victims for Crimes (OVC), promises to “…prevent children’s exposure to violence violence, reducing the negative effects experienced by children exposed to violence, and increasing knowledge and awareness…” (www.justice.gov/ag/defendingchildhood) KAFSC became a part of OVC’s campaign when we were given a grant made possible by OVC’s Fiscal Year 2010 Action Partnerships or Public Awareness in Underserved Communities programs.

This grant will allow KAFSC to raise awareness and educate the Korean American community on the effects that domestic violence and child abuse have on our children.  As OVC and DOJ pledges to aim at protecting children, we, as an organization and a family dedicated to the Korean Community, will try our best to live up to this amazing campaign for children.
